There is something about hemp

Hemp seeds are well and truly a super food, and consumption in Australia is increasing in popularity, but if you’re still not convinced it’s right for your baby, read on and let’s see if we can change your mind…

Now, first of all. Yes, the hemp plant is from the same species as Cannabis but it contains no, or extremely low levels, of THC – the psychoactive compound in marijuana. This is regulated and lab tested to ensure hemp products continue to meet strict Australian regulations. This means it’s safe for your little one. In fact, humans have been consuming hemp seeds for nearly 3,000 years.

With that out the way, we can now tell you what we love about hemp seeds and hemp protein powder.

Protein rich

Hemp seeds are a complete protein source, which means they contain all nine of the essential amino acids. They are also very high in protein and when made into a powder, even more so – hemp protein powder is about 50% protein.

Good fats

Hemps seeds are about 30% fat, with both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. These good fats are very important for your little one's brain development. These fats also make hemp seeds energy dense, and babies require a lot of calories to fuel their growing and active bodies.

Source of iron

Babies need a lot of iron when they start solids and hemp protein powder is rich in iron. The seeds contain iron too but when made into a powder, the concentration of iron is higher.

Easily digested

These little seeds are about 20% fibre which is great for gut health and to keep your little one regular. Hemp protein is also very digestible, and the nutrients can easily be absorbed by a maturing digestive system.

Low allergenic

Unlike many other seeds and nuts, hemp seeds are low allergenic and allergic reactions are very rare.

More good stuff

Hemp seeds also contain B vitamins, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. They truly are packed full of all the good stuff.

Just 30 grams of hemp protein powder will deliver your little one with all the protein they need each day, approximately 75% of their daily iron requirement and a healthy serving of fatty acids.

Because our little ones have such small stomachs, it’s important we offer them nutrient-dense foods like hemp seeds/protein powder, to make sure their little bodies are getting what they need.

So, as far as we’re concerned, hemp seeds and hemp protein powder should be on the menu every day.
